Aknor Construction was incorporated in November, 1978 by Jack Keyzer. Jack moved his family to Moonstone and started in construction. Jack set up a yard beside Smith’s garage on Hwy 12 with a small site trailer as an office and for his equipment. Aknor soon became known as the go-to company for all things sewer, water, site- development, demolition and excavating within the Orillia area.

Aknor was involved in some large jobs in the area including the break wall at the Orillia Waterfront and the excavation for Casino Rama and many jobs large and small in between. Aknor has worked for years alongside the large Aggregate companies in the area doing over-burden stripping, excavating and removal of material.

History

For almost 40 years, Jack ran Aknor solely with the on and off assistance of his wife Fran in the office and all of his daughters during school breaks.

During many large jobs, Jack found it difficult to hire float companies to move his equipment around, so he purchased his first truck and trailer and started to move his own equipment.

Many locally will know Jack’s brother Nick who operated all of the equipment with expertise and was with Jack until his own retirement in 2017.

In the early 2000’s Jack was starting to slow down and stepping back from many of the large excavating jobs.

He had acquired another truck and was starting to float for other companies as well.

In 2015, his daughter Korine was ready to leave the corporate rat race of Toronto. After much talk and consideration, Korine decided to move back to Orillia and take over the business.

The next two and a half years saw an easy and welcome transition into retirement for Jack and handing of the reins to Korine.

Korine’s background in HR, logistics and trucking poised her well to learn the business.

Aknor today has mostly transitioned into a float service, specializing in heavy equipment movement all over Ontario.

Team

We are a small but mighty team with Korine as the lead and her team providing exceptional service.

· Rob Whelan after retirement in 2019 as our Engineer, still comes to work when needed to Pilot large loads and support Korine when required.

· Jake Delong has been with Aknor for over 35 years. A master of moving all things large and small with mechanical skills better than most! He is a strong passionate and dedicated member of our team.

· Matt Makins joined in 2017 and is an exemplary and very valued member of our team. Long hauls are his specialty and he can move and fix anything.

· Andy Townson joined in 2018, Andy has been a great addition to our team and a perfect example of you are never too old to learn.

· Chris Kiriakou joined our growing team in 2021. A great addition to our team with hopes of continued success and a long journey with us.

We specialize in heavy haul throughout Ontario.

We move mostly for the Aggregate and Construction Industries as well as Farm Equipment, Paving Equipment, Drilling Equipment, Logging, Marine Equipment and Barges

We operate with:

4 Heavy Spec Tractors – 1 Tandem and 3 Tri-Axle
1 Roll-Off Flat Deck – carry loads up to 9’ in height, 8’6” Wide, 22’ Deck and carry 10,000 Kg’s
